What are the benefits of acrylic over glass?

Glass is very brittle, as anyone who has ever cracked a mug in their kitchen can attest to. Additionally, it is weighty, especially when glass is used to construct awards, frames, and other products. Acrylic, commonly known as plexiglass, is a type of flexible plastic that resists shattering. Unlike glass, which is quickly broken and possibly harmful, acrylic is robust and unlikely to break. Additionally, acrylic has the propensity to be much clearer than glass. But when you side-by-side compare the prices of acrylic and glass, you’ll frequently discover that acrylic is a little more expensive. However, products made of plastic rather than glass weigh far less, are less expensive to ship, and are simpler to handle due to their durability.

How do you ship your material?

At JC Acrylics, we believe in offering the highest level of quality services to our customers. When shipping our products, we choose a good box, ideally a new one. We don’t reuse boxes as they may cause damage to the product being shipped. We wrap items individually and use a cushioning material like bubble wrap to protect them. We make sure to fill out any space in the box with shredded paper or bubble wrap to reduce movement. In addition, sharp or oddly shaped items are taped to prevent punctures. We also make use of double wall boxes for heavier shipments (anything over 10kg). We also believe goods should be placed in plastic bags or wrapped in plastic to protect them from dampness or condensation. Finally, we seal the boxes using packaging tape on all seams and flaps of the box.

What exactly is acrylic sheet material?

Polymethyl methacrylate, often known as PMMA, is the actual name of the material that is commonly referred to as acrylic. The brand name Plexiglass has come to be associated with this substance. PMMA is made from raw materials: acetone, methanol, hydrogen cyanide, and sulfuric acid. The merging of two or more chemicals to produce a new material with distinct features is called polymerization. Compare the process of polymerization to the creation of a television: you combine glass, copper, metal, and other materials, and an hour later you have a television. . Even while each component is still present, the final result is entirely different. Methacrylic acid interacts with methyl alcohol to produce PMMA as the first step. Thus, methyl methacrylate is produced. By polymerizing this material, PMMA is created.

Does lucite and plexiglass Yellow in the Sun?

Lucite and Plexiglass do not exhibit any yellowing and they are both acrylic-based products manufactured from natural gas. Natural gas becomes inert when it is converted into an acrylic substance, meaning it doesn’t react chemically when exposed to heat, sunshine, or other chemicals. As a result, Plexiglass and lucite maintain their clarity and brightness in the sun and do not turn yellow in the sun.

What about the thermal expansion of plexiglass when it is exposed to the sun?

Temperature and humidity variations cause all materials to expand and contract to varying degrees. When building and manufacturing things, for instance, the expansion joints in cement sidewalks and on steel bridges, consideration must be given to these changes. Compared to other building materials, acrylic sheets are more susceptible to dimensional change as a result of thermal expansion and contraction. Since acrylic sheet moves about.00984 inches per foot length for every 20 degrees of temperature change, it often does not need particular expansion and contraction considerations other than to provide a snug rather than a tight fit.

Are acrylic shapes available in different colors?

At JC Acrylics, we have acrylic shapes in different colors depending on the customer’s wish. Apart from aesthetics, colored acrylic essentially shares all the same properties as clear acrylic. Colored acrylic can be opaque, colored, or translucent. Additionally, a wide range of colors is readily available because it is an artificial creation. Blue, red, yellow, orange, grey, bronze, black, and white are a few of the most well-liked colors. Within those color groups, there are a variety of tints available as well. Therefore, it’s very likely that you can obtain acrylic sheets that exactly match your visual requirements if you have a specific appearance in mind. Moreover, depending on the type you select, you can still be able to see some detail or the sheet might be completely opaque while retaining the other properties of acrylic.

What if I have a deep scratch on my plastic?

If you have a deep scratch on your plastic, keep calm and take the following processes.

  • Wet one piece of 800 grit sandpaper – run it over the scratch in a circular motion and repeat with a dry piece of 800 grit sandpaper.
  • Alternate between the dry and wet sandpaper, rubbing for 2 to 3 minutes.  Don’t worry if your acrylic begins to look more frosty or appears to have more little scratch marks on it – this will go away during the process.
  • Next, move on to grade 1200 and do the same. Keep rubbing until all the scratches have disappeared.

Finally, dry the area with a soft, dry, and clean cotton cloth. Then apply the acrylic polish and the acrylic should look like it has never been scratched!  The polish should restore your acrylic to a high level of shine

Are the edges of your plexiglass too sharp?

The Plexiglas we cut has smooth, chip-free edges thanks to our saws and routers. Be cautious of edges that will be touched. Although this edge is not as sharp as glass, it is possible to sustain a “paper-cut” injury if you run your palm fast and forcefully along it. Use a sanding block and #100 grit sandpaper as a fix. Just repeatedly run the sandpaper at a 45-degree angle over the edges. Test the edge with your fingers. Stop when it seems comfortable.
